    What is the Structure of the Flywheel?

    The flywheel, which is one of the important parts of vehicles, whether automatic or manual, is the wheel that takes power from the starter dynamo in the vehicle in order to give the vehicle engine the first movement. The flywheel, which is a part of motor vehicles, is known for providing power transmission. The company that produces the flywheel directly determines the quality of the flywheel. As a result, the choice of flywheel manufacturer is a very important point.

    What is the Structure of the Flywheel?

    The body of the flywheel is generally made of steel or cast iron. This ensures optimum balance between strength and weight. The circular part is generally surrounded by thick edges.

    The teeth on the outer edges are preferred to ensure the connection with the transmission or clutch. The flywheel stores kinetic energy during its rotation. This energy is released when the engine falls. The part connected to the crankshaft allows power transmission to be realized easily.

    How does a flywheel work?

    The basic working principle of the flywheel, which functions to store and regulate energy, is based on rotational motion and moment of inertia. The part stores the energy received from the power source. The mass and diameter of the part creates its moment of inertia.

    The mass of the flywheel is used to compensate for fluctuations in the system. The kinetic energy stored during the rotational motion is given back when the system decelerates. Regulating and keeping the speed of the system constant is possible with the flywheel. It ensures the smooth operation of the motor in the gaps that exist during energy pulses.

    Flywheel Types

    Flywheels are divided into types according to their usage areas, structural features and the amount of energy they store. Flat flywheels are preferred in heavy machinery and internal combustion engines. Ring flywheels are lighter in the center and heavier at the edges. Energy is stored in the heavy ring on the outside.

    This type of flywheel is also preferred in generators and high-speed rotating engines. Dual-mass flywheels are used especially in manual vehicles. Internally geared flywheels are ideal for trucks, heavy machinery and tractors. In addition, fixed flywheels, composite flywheels and electric flywheels are also preferred in different areas.

    Flywheel Maintenance

    Flywheel maintenance should be performed regularly in order to increase the safety and performance of the vehicle. During maintenance, visual control should be performed first. Thus, it is checked whether there are cracks or abrasions on the surface.

    The surface of the flywheel should be cleaned regularly. During cleaning, moving parts should be lubricated to prevent wear. In addition, the nuts and screws on the flywheel should be checked. Loose connections cause noise and vibration problems.

    Along with regular maintenance, it is recommended to contact professional services at certain intervals. With this step to be taken, it ensures that the problems that may arise in the flywheel are detected in the early stages and the necessary steps are taken before major problems manifest themselves.
