Legal Referral Speaks Out: Running After an Accident? You’re Making the Biggest Mistake of Your Life

From Fender Benders to Major Screw-Ups: Why You Gotta Stay Put

Hey. It’s me. That lawyer you hope you never need. But if you’re reading this, maybe you do.

The Moment You Think About Running

Look, I get it. You’re scared. Your heart’s pounding. Maybe you’ve had a few. Maybe you’re late picking up the kids. Doesn’t matter. That voice in your head saying “Just go”? It’s lying to you. I had this client once. Good guy, never been in trouble. He panicked and ran after a minor fender bender. Guess what? Someone got his plate number. Now he’s facing charges, lost his job, and his wife’s talking divorce. All over a dented bumper.

What Really Happens When You Run

You think you’re avoiding trouble? Ha! You’re diving headfirst into it. I’ve seen too many lawyers for auto accidents dealing with this mess. It ain’t pretty. Fines, jail time, losing your license… and that’s if you’re lucky. And don’t even get me started on drunk driving hit and run cases. Those are… man, those are rough. Had a client lose everything – job, family, freedom. All because he thought he could outrun his mistakes.

What To Do When You’re Freaking Out

Okay, so you messed up. Here’s what you do: 1. Breathe. Just breathe, dammit. 2. Someone hurt? Call 911. Now. 3. Move your car if you can. But don’t leave. 4. Call the cops. Yeah, it sucks. Do it anyway. 5. Trade info. Try not to lose your cool. 6. Take pictures. Of everything. 7. Shut up about whose fault it is. Just shut up. Feeling like you’re gonna lose it? Call someone. Anyone. There’s always a legal advocate ready to help. Just don’t do anything stupid.

    A Word About Motorcycles

While we’re here, can we talk about motorcycles for a sec? People always ask me how far back should you follow a motorcycle. The answer? Further than you think. Way further. Those riders are one pothole away from disaster. Give ’em space, for crying out loud.

    Why I’m Writing This

I didn’t get into law to watch people’s lives fall apart. But that’s what I see, day in and day out, with these hit-and-runs. It’s not just the legal stuff. It’s the guilt. The “what ifs”. The knowing you could’ve handled it better. I’ve sat across from too many people who made that split-second choice to run. And let me tell you, the regret in their eyes? It’s heavy, folks. Real heavy. So please, if you’re ever in an accident, just stay. Deal with it. Yeah, it’ll suck. But it’ll suck a whole lot less than running. And if you’re ever in doubt? If you’re scared or confused or just need someone to talk to? There’s always an injury attorney near me ready to help. That’s what we’re here for. Stay safe out there, alright? And remember, we’re all just trying to get through the day. Let’s try not to make it harder on each other.
